Now It's Almost Christmas

Now It's Almost Christmas

The 4th of July is just a few days behind us and already stores have their "Back to School" displays up.  Before you know it, Pumpkin Spice everything will be gracing the shelves (and Apple flavors for those who think it's better than pumpkin.)  I find it difficult to imagine that the stores are pushing fall while I'm still sweating in the garden and working my butt off to put up the harvest.  However, seeing those signs certainly puts me into high gear.  It makes me realize that fall is actually going to be here faster than I think, and I still have so much to do!

This week I have to figure out what I'm going to do with my first flush of peppers.  I was hoping they would be ready at the same time as my tomatoes (isn't that the way it always happens?)  I also noticed that my beans are ready to harvest for the first time.  those will need canned.  I also need to process my beets, the first batch is really ready to be pickled.  And somehow, besides all of that, I need to make a few custom lamb halters, a few for stock, and make a few more feed bag totes.

Time stands still for no one.  The seasons change faster than they did when I was a kid, I think.  But future me will be thankful that current me is as busy as a bee, because there is security in jars on the shelf and products available to sell through the fall and winter vendor events.  And if I am really honest with myself, I enjoy the work.  It keeps me out of trouble.
